In October 2015, the West Greenwich Land Trust helped The Nature Conservancy acquire a 6.4-acre parcel off Henry Brown Road, abutting the
Big River Management Area and other lands protected by the Conservancy.
The Land Trust provided a grant to cover half of the legal expenses; the Bafflin Foundation provided the remaining funds.
The Harrop Property occupies a low area of maturing red maple swamp, bordered by upland oak forest on two small, opposite
-facing hills. The swamp drains to the east via a seasonal stream, forming part of the headwaters of Fisherville Brook. In spring
and summer, the property provides nesting habitat for veeries, flycatchers, and other migratory songbirds.
