West Greenwich Land Trust's 5th Annual "Celebrate West Greenwich"
Celebrate West Greenwich is a day to join your neighbors, friends and family
in celebrating the beauty and history of scenic West Greenwich ... a day
experience the natural treasures in the community you live in!
"Celebrate West Greenwich" is a hometown family event offering handmade crafts,
farmers market, pumpkins, food, 4-H demonstrations,
horse drawn wagon rides,
music, apple pie contest, photo contest, award ceremony and much more!
- 12:00 pm Vendor Exhibits Open
- 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm Wagon Rides
Provided by Edgewood Farm,
enjoy a relaxing horse drawn wagon ride on country roads in the area from various parking sites to the event site.
- 1:00 pm Burt The Raccoon
Presentation uses puppetry, American
Sign Language, storytelling and mime to help explain the typical forest food chain, as well as many interesting facts about raccoons and how they live in the forest.
- 1:00 pm Tillinghast Pond Wagon Ride
Join Tim Mooney of the
Nature Conservancy in this forty-five minute wagon ride to Tillinghast Pond Management Area to learn about the history and many different points of interest on this 1400 acre property. Seating is limited on a
first come first serve basis.
- 2:00 pm RI Coverts Project
Join Paul Boisvert, Coverts
Coordinator, (RC&D) to learn how to develop a sound wildlife forest and stewardship plan for your woodlot or woodland. "Coverts" is an old English word that refers to a thicket that provides sheltering over
wildlife. If you are interested in enhancing your wildlife habitat on your property, this program is for you!
- 2:00 pm Watercolor Art Class
Join local artists in learning the
basics of watercolor painting of the West Greenwich Landscape. This class is geared towards all ages and available throughout the day.
- 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm Music — "Not Them Again" Back by Popular Demand!
This local band has been the providing their favorite repertoire of music enjoyed by all for the past four years. Come and enjoy for yourself!
- 2:00 pm B'wana Iguana Adventure
An exciting interactive program
that both entertains and educates people of all ages about the mysterious world of reptiles and amphibians.
- 3:00 pm Born To Be Wild
Born to be Wild Nature Center is a
non-profit wildlife rehabilitation center dedicated to helping injured and orphaned wildlife. They specialize in the care of Hawks, Owls and Falcons and will showcase these beautiful birds among the
- 3:30 pm Hometown Barbecue Chicken Dinner
Prepared and served by
the Andrews Family of West Greenwich. $10.00 per person. Advance reservations must be submitted online or by calling 401-392-3628. To assist us in providing the number of dinners required, please make-advanced
reservations prior to September 18, 2012.

Best Apple Pie Contest
- There is one (1) category — Apple. Please enter 1 pie only.
- Use standard nondescript pie pans (disposable).
- Pies must have a top crust -- no tarts.
- All pies entered will be used to provide slices as dessert to event patrons on a first come, first serve basis.
- The first 20 registrants will be accepted.
- Upon the completion of judging, prizes will be awarded.
- Please bring your pie into the Plain Meetinghouse by 1:00 on the day of the event.
Best Digital Photo Contest
The West Greenwich Land Trust is looking for digital photos of natural, scenic and
historic areas throughout West Greenwich to be used in the Land Trust's web site, publications, newsletters, etc. Digital photos no larger then 2MB, 300 DPI will be accepted no later then
Monday, September 17, 2012 on our web site (see below). The top three photos chosen for "The Best of West Greenwich" will be awarded 1st $75.00, 2nd $50.00 and 3rd $25.00 gift certificates. All photos
entered will become the property of the West Greenwich Land Trust and each participant will receive credit when his or her photo is published. Digital photo
awards will be showcased and honored at the Plain Meeting House at 4:30 pm on Sunday, September 30th, 2012. Three  photo entry limit per person.

Tillinghast Pond Bobber Hunt
Twenty-five  red and white fishing bobbers will be dispersed on Tillinghast
Pond located on Plain Road approximately ½ mile from the intersection of Plain Meeting House Road and Plain Road by Saturday, September 8, 2012. The bobbers are numbered and labeled WG Land Trust.
Please remove one bobber per family and bring to the Sunday September 30th event at Plain Meeting House at 4:30 pm for the drawing of two bobber numbers to win a $25.00 Gift Certificate each.
